16 Dec InnovationM Round Table
When it comes to startups in Europe, everyone is looking at Berlin or London, but one thing is for sure: digital change is not only taking place in big cities, it is a phenomenon throughout Germany and beyond.
All over Germany, startups are popping up and developing new solutions across industries. However, there is a lack of platforms, where those startups can exchange their experiences. That’s why we created the InnovationM Round Table as a regular event where the startup ecosystem of Rhein-Main can come together on a regular basis to discuss current problems, partner up and develop a sustainable network.
On December 9th, the first InnovationM Round Table took place at the Innovation Center with a top notch lineup that highlighted the region’s variety and potential. We welcomed Secretary of State and member of the German Parliament Brigitte Zypries, who is responsible for IT at the Ministry of Economics.
Sedat Aktaş, who founded the nationally successful wine-ecommerce platform “Geile Weine,” brought a startup’s perspective to the table. Furthermore, we had Christian Hoppe from the Commerzbank backed MainIncubator and Dr. Sebastian Schäfer from the University of Frankfurt. The Round Table was hosted by Michael Gamber, Head of Merck Innovation Center.
The audience was packed with Merck employees, people from regional corporates, as well as young entrepreneurs and students. The round table came to the consensus that the Rhein-Main Area has an ideal infrastructure, with the right balance of powerful corporates, top notch universities and investors looking for new opportunities. The only thing the region is lacking is visibility in the media and a network to connect the dots within the ecosystem – something the InnovationM Round Table takes it one step closer to achieving. As Sedat Aktas, GEILE WEINE, sums it up: “We do not need to become a German Silicon Valley. We should figure out our own strengths and showcase them to the world.”
The next InnovationM Round Table will take place in February 2016.
