03 Nov Secretary of State Brigitte Zypries Visits Innovation Center

The Rhine-Main-Area not only demonstrates its startup-profile through its successful companies and universities, but also by creating a powerful voice in German politics: Brigitte Zypries is not only secretary of state in the Federal Ministry of Economy and Technology, but also a member in the Bundestag for the electoral district of Darmstadt-Dieburg. One of her core-topics is IT in Germany so it was only a matter of time before the Innovation Center team sent an invitation to Brigitte.

On Thursday, October 27th, Brigitte Zypries enjoyed a guided tour by Michael Gamber, the Head of Innovation Center, and took part in a roundtable meeting with Merck executives. She was introduced to the internal project teams and to the accelerator startup-teams during the tour. Mara Thomas gave a short speech about the status quo of the indoor-farming project and Munya Chivasa updated the secretary on Merck’s activities in Africa. The startup teams of Contagt, Apoly and Sulfotools were having a workshop on Finance during the visit so unfortunately there was only time for a brief „hello“.

During the personal exchange the main focus was on the issue, how Darmstadt and the Rhine-Main-Area could be developed into a dynamic region for innovation and entrepreneurship which possesses benefits for both startups and traditional companies. One aspect that everyone could agree on was the excellent infrastructure that is already in place. What it takes are formats and platforms to connect the dots amongst entrepreneurs. The Innovation Center can play an important role in that matter as a center of a vibrant network in the region. In 2015 there will be an event where startups and traditional companies gather at a roundtable. Brigitte Zypries already raised her flag to be part of it.
