07 Jun Merck participates in international eHealth conference
Earlier this month, Merck participated in the 7th annual Health 2.0 Europe event. This year’s conference, hosted in Barcelona, brought together over 400 pharmaceutical entrepreneurs and investors, medical practitioners, insurers, and patients. The event featured prestigious speakers, innovative workshops, and live demonstrations.
Munya Chivasa, Innovation Manager at Merck participated in a panel on how to effectively implement new digital health solutions into emerging markets. Jodi Pons, a successful serial entrepreneur, and Donato Tramuto, founder of Health eVillages, a project that helps operate rural hospitals in Kenya, joined him in the discussion. Chivasa presented on Merck’s recent collaborations with digital health startups in Africa. He went on to discuss the potential that startups like these have to revolutionize the medical field in these developing areas. In a nutshell, he emphasized that
“At Health 2.0 we had the opportunity to present our programs on one of Europe’s largest digital health platforms. We also attained insights and connections to Entrepreneurs who are currently working on exciting solutions and we hope to see some of them in our next Accelerator intake.”
The panel also included demonstrations of some of the products these startups have created, including Check-ER, a recent resident of the Merck Innovation Center. Check-ER is a mobile app that optimizes Emergency Room wait times by pre-screening patients. The team is led by Leon Hulli and Rachel Bodkier of Tel Aviv.
